My Head Or My Heart?
Is your core desire coming from your head, or is it coming from your heart?
Do you want to be a doctor because your head desires prestige?
Or, do you want to be a doctor because your guts love to heal and help people?
Are you an acrobat because being courageous is the desired characteristic that your mind wants to add to it’s self-made identity?
Or, are you an acrobat because your Soul sings when you experience the joy of soaring through the air?
If there is something you want to be, do, or have, can you tell if that desire is coming from your head, or your heart? Sometimes it may be hard to tell. Let’s take a closer look and see what we find.
Try This:
Fill in the blanks to help reveal if your core desire is coming from your head, or from your heart.
Fill in the Blanks:
My desire is to be, do, or have _________
Why do I want to be, do, or have this desire? __________
How do I think I would feel to be, do, or have this desire? _________
What excites me about this desire? __________
If I had all the money in the world, would I still want to be, do, or have this desire?__________
Based on your answers, can you tell if your desire comes more from the head, or more from the heart?
Examine
Answers that come from the head generally support and embellish the ego, the mind-made identity.
These answers support more of what you seem like on the outside, more than how you feel on the inside.
Answers that come from the heart support you viscerally.
These answers can be vague on detail, but big on feeling. They may even not make sense analytically. These answers are sometimes more difficult to come up with as they often point to an inner “pull” or an inexplicable resonating. “I don’t know, I just like it” is a tell-tale answer from the heart.
Logical Sense Or Nonsensical Joy?
Question your desires. If they make more logical sense, than they do nonsensical joy, then your desire may be your head’s and not your heart’s. The difference between logical sense and nonsensical joy, feels like the difference between surviving and thriving.
You think your desire is coming from your head? Good job, and no worries.
Accept, stay present, and follow the scent of your own feel-good. Identify what feels good and what feels right, even if the mind can’t match that to words, and pursue it.
